So, the long-awaited NUFC club shop is now open. Josh has been so excited to see it (he was even popping to check up on the construction work), so we thought why not head over and take a look.
The first thing you notice when you enter is (as expected), it’s very modern. You’re welcomed by 11 mannequins at the entrance – 1 goalkeeper and 10 outfield players. Couldn’t tell what position they played as they were all the same size, but maybe a couple of them will make it onto the bench this week!
The downstairs area has a combination of children’s clothing and some of the ‘casualwear’, as well your standard accessories like scarves, umbrellas etc. But the best part of the downstairs for us is the ‘history’ area. This is where you’re treated to a load of old match programmes from over the years (you can’t buy them – just to look at). There’s then some great match memorabilia including Alan Shearer’s signed shirt from when he reached 200 goals, plus some match worn women’s shirts and their medals.
As you approach the escalator to go upstairs, you’re met with a full floor-to-ceiling media wall that’s playing a variety of NUFC related videos – this is awesome, but it gets better! As you reach the top of the escalator, you are met with the club shop’s very own tyne bridge – it’s black and in a bit better condition than the real one, but that should change (in 4 years…).
Upstairs you have all of the replica shirts, with full walls featuring a variety of the current squad, plus a few extras (the Shearer and Ginola shirts are perfection). You also have all of the retro gear and some more ‘casualwear’, as well as a DJ setup, speakers and a TV on the wall featuring some more NUFC information.
All-in-all, a MASSIVE improvement on the old shop and further proof of the great investment the new ownership are putting into the area. If you’re off to the game soon – make sure to pop in, you’ll love it – and whilst your here, why not check out the reel we made.
